Volunteering & Community Service

Long-term engagement in volunteer or community service work is an important component of every pre-professional health student's academic career.  This engagement demonstrates to the professional schools that a student is truly committed to a life and career of serving others.   Students are encouraged to get involved in activities that they are passionate about, that connect to their personal hobbies and interests, and/or that relate to their chosen health field.  Students should strive to incorporate service, teamwork, and leadership in the volunteer work that they engage in.  Below are links to community service opportunities and resources at EKU.

EKU Community Service

EKU Counseling Center Mental Health Peer Advocate Program

EKU Student Life Community Service Awards

See the attached list below of local non-profit organizations that EKU pre-professional health students frequently volunteer with.  Items marked with an "*" denote opportunities that may qualify as shadowing and/or clinical experience.  Students should become familiar with the AAMC's "Guidelines for Pre-Medical and Medical Students Providing Patient Care During Clinical Experiences Abroad" when engaging in clincial volunteer experiences.
